Wranglers do their show the first night we were

up in Ruidoso. We have been going to see these

guys for 26 years and they always do a great job.

All of us, by the way, are musicians of El Paso...

El Paso Musicians Reunion - Ruidoso, N.M. - 8/17/08

Powell. This was a fabulous weekend of revisiting

great memories and being together once again. It

had been 35 or so years since Ron and I last saw

each other. I remember going to the Jet Set Club

on Dyer St. in 1968 to see The Sojourners - Ron's

band. Randy Jones was also a member at that time.

Dalton was back in El Paso after Bobby Fullers death

in 1966. He was probably playing with the Maggots

at the time. I was playing with the Basic Sound -

probably at the Knights Club. This reunion was part

of the Norman Petty Tribute organized by Richard Chorné.

All I can say is - "Richard knows how to throw a mean

party!" We need to do this more often.....

Moon Pie Daince Band Reunion Concert

There was a big happening at the Lancers Club East this last Friday, Nov. 2nd. The Moon Pie Reunion (Jack Woodberry-guitar, David Rutledge-drums, Doug Neal-bass and Randy Jones-guitar) along with a couple other musicians - Frank Zona on sax, and a special appearance of one of El Paso's remaining legends in his own time - Rod Crosby. I understand that Rod did a couple of the Bobby Fuller Four tunes that rocked the place. A big thanks goes out to Doug Neal for sharing the pictures his wife shot of the show. Sharon and I wanted to attend this but missed it. If there were any other pictures out there that someone would like to share with us please get in touch with me. R.K.

Randy Jones is, without a doubt, one of the finest

pickers in the business. He is a native El Pasoan -

graduated from Austin High School and has played

with groups all of his life. My earliest recollection

of Randy was with Ron and Sue Gorton's group

called the Sojourners - 1968. He's also played with a group

called "Sippin Whiskey", "Moon Pie Daince Band" -

which he still plays with and Ruidoso, New Mexico

group "The Flying J Wranglers". He plays with them

6 nights a week at the Flying J Ranch in Alto, N.M.

My wife and I have been following their group for

25 years. They put on a great show for all ages.

The Sojourners - 1969

This was one of my favorite groups to go see and hear

in 1969-70. This picture was at either the International

Club (off of Montana near Chelmont) or the Knights Club

before they did the remodel. I remember how Bert would

start his drum solo on the drums and would go into the

audience and play on peoples drink glasses at their table.

He was a good rudimental drummer - very tasty and fun

to watch. They recorded two songs at Norman Petty's

Studios - Sun Summer Days and La Da Dee (Can You See).

The group had neat harmonies and played songs from

Buffalo Springfield and many other groups of that era.
