This was one of the "wealthiest" men I have
ever know in my life. No, not in monetary wealth,
but in an abundance of friendships. I knew Dick my
whole life, since my parents named me after him -
"Richard". He gave my mom the very first guitar
he ever made. It was made of solid mahogany. If
you ask any of the guitar players that were around
in the 60's thru the early 80's - they knew Dick because
he was the expert on making and fixing guitars. He
taught a few of the musicians, that are still around, some
of his tricks of the trade. Barry Martin of Frets and Necks
is one of those guys. Some of the fondest memories I have
of Dick Wright were the times when I went with my parents
to hear Dick play in Jam Sessions with my uncles, Jim and Bill
Crutcher and Carma Dean (on the peddle Steel). My mom
would sing the Tennessee Waltz and several other country
standards. I was only 9 or 10 years old but they were very
impressionable memories. I miss walking into his crowded
little house on Tesuque with guitars all over the place - it's
still a mystery why I became a drummer and not a picker.
