waking. Must be all the aspirin I've consumed (Hmm!)
That aside, the following is for the benefit of anyone
who gives a ---- dollar to charity. It all started in a small
town in Michigan....(just kidding). I guess it really began
with the high school garage bands that every musician
in the world took part in. However, my fondest memory
of that era would have to be winning the innaugural
Chopin Award my senior year; followed by four rather
strange years at UTEP (courtesy of a piano scholarship)
in which I managed to win a concerto contest followed by
a performance with the UTEP Orchestra.
From there, fate landed me three years in the Army
Band, including performances in south Korea and Japan.
When my military service concluded, I played with a series
of El Paso groups. Among them being a rather fun group
called "The Basic Sound" featuring a pretty fair singing
drummer by the name of Rick Kern and a former member
of "The Bobby Fuller Four" Jim Reese. I also must mention
the sequel to the aforementioned group "Macadamia"
(Please, Sam and Gayle, no hate mail please!!)
After the eventual break up, I hit the road, (wow!) My
five or so travelling years included bands such as "Twentieth
Century Music" and "Tony Solo with Charisma".
Not realizing my dream, I returned to old El Paso and
played with several notable?? groups such as "Southwest"
(Hey Ron!) , Danny Austin's "Feather Creek", and my most
recent undertaking (whoops, don't care fro that word anymore,
hope it doesn't give away my age - "57". So I think I'll just say
"Viva" "Hot Pursuit". Submitted by Richard Greco
