One band that rocked the northeast part of town
was the Torquetts - later named The Sixth Column.
Fred Kienle, Mike Norman, and Chuck Davis were
the core members for many years. They played at
the old Turf Club, The Jet Set Club and the Knights
Club. Fred and the boys were a staple at Bobby
Fuller's Rendevous. I had played drums, a little guitar
and bass. I worked with Charlie Thomas attempting
to put together rock bands and folk groups. I first met
Fred in the late 60's and during the early 70's filled in
on drums for Mike Norman when his work schedule at the
aerial tram changed from time to time. The photo of the
Torquetts was taken while Mike Norman was on a long
hiatus and David Dorian played drums. Kneeling in front
is Fred Kienle. Left to right in back are Ken Schorley,
Dave Dorian, George Gerbrick and Chuck Davis. I hope
I spelled Ken and George's last names correctly. The pic
was taken at McKelligon Canyou. The 45 was from the
Torquette years and was a local favorite.
