Steve has been a member of the music faculty
at UTEP since the fall of 2004. He was born in El
Paso, attended grade and high school in El Paso
and graduated with honors from West Texas
and graduated with honors from West Texas
State University (now West Texas A&M) with a
Bachelor of Music degree in Euphonium
performance. He has been involved in the musical
community of El Paso and Las Cruces since his
return in 1973, playing with the Pro-Musica and
Nehring Consort Chamber Orchestras on Bass
Trombone and Tuba, and with the El Paso
Symphony as Principal Tubist from 1983-1988.
He is the founding member of Quintessential Brass
and has served in that ensemble for over twenty-two
years. I have had the pleasure of getting to know and
performing with Steve when I was a member of
the Bruce Nehring Consort in 1993 and 1994.
He's a great musician friend and has a lot to share
with the university students and music lovers all over.
